In some strange way, I feel that the day of my 26th birthday, which was on Sunday, was representative of my life at the moment. Draw what conclusions you may from this biased tally of my activities.
Presents received: a cocktail shaker set, a case of Little Creatures beer, a bottle of botrytis dessert wine, a Joni Mitchell CD, some Belgian chocolate, two Kinder Surprises, and a culinary blowtorch (of the type used to make the toffee tops of creme brulees).
Activities: fixing a friend's computer, installing my own computer in a new case (birthday present to my workhorse PC), buying three Japanese cookbooks at the brilliant Kinokuniya (more on that at a later date), attending the ABC Classic FM Sunday Live broadcast at Ultimo (Pindy was playing), gloating over my cookbooks, going to Frigid, drinking at my house.
Comestibles: (a poor effort, interrupted by my other activities) A sweet BBQ pork bun, an egg custard tart, potato crisps, Belgian chocolate, assorted fried seafood, hot chips, tartare sauce. I attempted to eat at the new Ichibanboshi ramen joint in The Galeries, but didn't have time to line up!
Beverages: T2 First Flush Darjeeling tea, EasyWay honey milk tea with pearl, a Redback at The Clare in Broadway, a pint of James Squire Pilsener, about four glasses of Umeshu (japanese plum wine), a weird cocktail involving apple, strawberry, and gin, and a lovely glass of Wyndham Estate Bin 555 Shiraz 2001. Gosh!
Music: Italian supermodel Carla Bruni singing gorgeous French, smooth Ninja Tunes remixes, a folky Beck bootleg, the aforementioned ABC Classic FM concert, a bit of classic Kruder and Dorfmeister at the Clare, Ollo and Dsico at Frigid, and some classic midnight Ninja to help us through the wine.
From this, I can only conclude that I am a snobby alcoholic who enjoys cooking (sometimes elaborately), likes music, and spends too much time with computers. See what I mean?
Thanks all for well-wishes and your partying assistance.
